Meet the Director
Emily Oberlin
This year marks my ninth year serving in this role, and I’m thrilled to witness the incredible accomplishments our program and students will achieve. My journey in education began when I graduated from IPFW in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education: Social Studies. I spent seven years teaching world history and IB history at both the middle and high school levels, starting and continuing my career with Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS). Over the years, I’ve taught at North Side High School, Shawnee Middle School, and South Side High School.
In addition to teaching, I’ve been an active coach with experience in volleyball, basketball, and softball and have served as a student council sponsor. My dedication to education extended further when I earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from IPFW in 2012. In 2015, I began my administrative career as the Assistant Principal of ninth grade at Northrop High School. A year later, in 2016, I was honored to become the second Director of New Tech Academy at Wayne High School.
I strongly believe in the transformative power of small learning communities and am grateful to lead the efforts at NTA. I’m fortunate to work with an amazing team of teachers, students, and staff who come together to create a safe and supportive school environment. At New Tech Academy, we foster a sense of family, community, and a growth mindset while helping students develop into their unique selves. We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of traditional education and creating an innovative program that produces outstanding results for our students.
Outside of my professional life, I’m blessed with a large family that values the saying, “It takes a village.” I enjoy supporting my three nieces and three nephews in their activities and love spending time in nature, whether it’s hiking, kayaking, or exploring. Traveling, watching college and professional sports, dabbling in photography, and planning my next adrenaline-filled adventure also keep me energized and inspired.
