Meet the Principal
Emily Oberlin
My journey in education began when I graduated from IPFW in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education: Social Studies. I spent seven years teaching world history and IB history at both the middle and high school levels, starting and continuing my career with Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS). Over the years, I’ve taught at North Side High School, Shawnee Middle School and South Side High School.
In addition to teaching, I’ve been an active coach with experience in volleyball, basketball and softball and have served as a student council sponsor. My dedication to education extended further when I earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from IPFW in 2012. In 2015, I began my administrative career as the Assistant Principal of ninth grade at Northrop High School. A year later, in 2016, I was honored to become the second Director of New Tech Academy at Wayne High School.
I’m fortunate to work with an amazing team of teachers, students and staff who come together to create a safe and supportive school environment. At Wayne High School, we foster a sense of family, community and a growth mindset while helping students develop into their unique selves. We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of traditional education and creating an innovative program that produces outstanding results for our students.
Outside of my professional life, I’m blessed with a large family that values the saying, “It takes a village.” I enjoy supporting my three nieces and three nephews in their activities and love spending time in nature, whether it’s hiking, kayaking or exploring. Traveling, watching college and professional sports, dabbling in photography and planning my next adrenaline-filled adventure also keep me energized and inspired.
